Nothing goes wrong in December. It went wrong in September, quietly, in a way no report card is designed to show you.

How the year usually goes

    Half-yearly result. Everybody notices.

By the time the result explains the problem, two terms have been spent creating it.

What we count instead

Turning up. Attempting. Understanding.

Three things, counted every single month. Not because numbers are the point, but because a number is the only version of effort that shows up before the exam does.

A student who is slipping is doing it in one of exactly three ways. Each one has a different fix, and picking the wrong fix is why more classes so often change nothing.

Two missed hours do not sound like much. But the syllabus does not pause, so the next class is spent catching up instead of moving — and the month after that, the student is genuinely behind rather than just absent.

This is the one families almost never see, because attendance looks perfect. The student is present for every explanation and practises none of it — which feels like studying and produces nothing.

What the system does

  • Every set is logged as attempted or not, so the pattern is visible
  • The work is cut down until the streak restarts — four questions done beats ten ignored
  • Repeated misses become a conversation, not a bigger pile of homework

The hardest case, and the one extra classes cannot fix. The student is doing what was asked and the marks are not moving, which means the problem is a specific concept nobody has isolated yet.

What the system does

  • The monthly paper is marked concept by concept, not just totalled
  • The concept that keeps costing marks is named, in writing
  • The next classes are spent on that concept alone until the paper says otherwise

Diagnostics

We start by finding out
what last year left behind.

Every student is diagnosed on the day they join — not on this year's syllabus, but on the one underneath it. Most of what goes wrong in the final year was left unfinished in the year before it, and no amount of new teaching gets past it.

That diagnostic is not a one-off. It re-runs as the year moves, so the picture below is never more than a few weeks old — and the plan changes when the picture changes.

The loop

Intent is not a mood.
It is a loop.

Six steps, running every month a student is with us. Nothing here depends on a student feeling motivated on a given Tuesday.

Diagnose

Before anything is taught, we find out what last year left unfinished. That result sets the starting line, not the school's syllabus plan.

Commit

A number of classes a month and a volume of work a week, agreed out loud with the student and the parent. You cannot measure intent against a vague intention.

Count

Classes attended against classes subscribed. Work attempted against work set. Every month, without exception, whether or not anything looks wrong.

Flag

The moment a count drops, it is raised — in the same month, while there is still something to be done about it.

Intervene

Each of the three failure modes gets a different response. Reschedule, reduce the load, or stop and rebuild one concept — never simply add more hours.

Re-diagnose

The monthly paper says whether the intervention worked. If it did not, we were wrong about the cause and we go again.

This is the failure mode families almost never catch, because attendance looks perfect. A student can sit in every class, follow every explanation, and practise none of it.

It comes back marked, with the reason next to the mark. That is the difference between practice and homework: somebody read it.

When everything is done
and the score still won't move.

Attendance perfect, homework complete, marks flat. Extra classes will not fix this, because the problem is a specific concept nobody has isolated yet. That is what the monthly paper is for: it is marked concept by concept, not simply totalled.

Test series

The SAT rewards
rehearsal, not revision.

The SAT is not really a test of what a student knows. It is a test of what a student can produce, against a clock, in a format that punishes anyone meeting it for the first time on test day.

So we start early and escalate. By the time the real test arrives it should be the least surprising thing that has happened all year.

Most tuition stops at the teacher: find a good one, book the hours, hope. It works right up until the student stops turning up, or stops attempting the work, or does both perfectly and still cannot score.

Where AI fits

We use it to read across a term of attendance, homework and paper marks faster than a person can — the pattern in a student’s slide is easier to see when something has looked at all of it at once. It is entirely internal. A person still reads the output, and a person still makes the call.
